The Toronto Blue Jays are heading back to the World Series for the first time in more than 30 years, setting up a highly anticipated matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Toronto secured their American League pennant with a thrilling 4-3 victory in Game 7 of the AL Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners.

The Dodgers, boasting the largest payroll in baseball, are seeking to become the sport's first repeat champions in a quarter century. They have been a dominant force in recent years, with two World Series titles and five National League pennants over the past nine seasons. This year, they have navigated the postseason with impressive performances, including a dominant showing against the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS and a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS.

Shohei Ohtani has been a pivotal figure for the Dodgers, delivering a legendary performance in the NLCS clincher by hitting three home runs and pitching 6.1 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts. While the Dodgers have shown occasional vulnerabilities in their bullpen during the regular season, their postseason play has been largely unstoppable.

The Blue Jays, meanwhile, have undergone a significant turnaround. After finishing last in the AL East in 2024, they emerged as one of baseball's best teams this season, finishing with a 94-68 record and winning the division. Their path to the World Series was not without its challenges, as they needed all seven games to defeat the Mariners in the ALCS. The Mariners, who have never reached the World Series, pushed Toronto to the brink, but ultimately faltered under pressure, committing crucial errors and allowing a late three-run home run by George Springer in Game 7.

Toronto's return to the World Series marks their first appearance since 1993, when they won back-to-back championships. The Blue Jays' ability to put balls in play was effective in the ALCS, but they will face a superior defensive team in the Dodgers, who also possess a stronger starting pitching rotation. However, the Blue Jays may find an opportunity against the Dodgers' bullpen, which experienced struggles in the latter half of the regular season.

Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 24, in Toronto.
